🌳🎋Arashiyama Bamboo Forest is stated as one of the major tourist attractions when visiting Kyoto. Located north of the city, at the foot of “storm mountains”, the city is a famous tourist magnet, flooded with visitors of all ages.

⁉️Is it worth a visit?
🛑To me personally it’s not a must-see. Why? Because it is “just another forest with bamboo”. Yes, the path you walk along is beautiful but also quite short and nothing special if you’ve seen bamboo before.
Since I have seen and walked through several bamboo areas and gardens before, eg in Hawaii, Arashiyama was “nice to see” but certainly not a “must-see” place.

Considering the time you spend getting to- and back from Arashiyama, also taking into consideration how much time you are planing on staying in kyoto, I’d recommend to focus on other sightseeing attractions first to not lose too much time.

If you go 👇

🔹If you would like to enjoy a peaceful and less hectic experience, I recommend to visit Arashiyama very early in the morning around 6- 8am, as past these times the number of visitors sequentially increases to a point where you cannot even walk anymore through the forests.

🔹The park is open 24/7 and admission is free.

🔹Once walking downhill, cross the “Togetsukyo Bridge”, which is one of Arashiyama’s most known landmarks. Stroll through several souvenir shops and restaurants. You can also rent a bike or boat on a sunny day 🛶

🔹Most temples in the surrounding areas require entrance fees; the same applies for monkey park, if you want to stop by.
In case you are planning on visiting the famous “moss temple”, you are required to make a reservation in advance 1 day up to two weeks.

🧎‍♀️Both locals and tourist come here to treasure and worship this place, praying to master different challenges of life- from finding true love to passing exams, being successful in business, curing diseases, etc.

🪆The „daruma dolls“ placed all over the premises are sacrifices brought by believers whose dreams came true.
A both magical and spiritual experience you should not miss out on when visiting Osaka!

🥊Honour Muay Thai: 2-Week training camp in Ao Nang, Krabi

In September this year I have made a long desired wish come true by trying out the Marshall arts of Muay Thai. And what better place to pick is there to experience an authentic training camp than Thailand?

⛺️ Honour Muay Thai is a camp located in Ao Nang, Krabi with a great facility for students to practice, learn and jointly grow their skills from beginners to professionals. All fitness levels are welcome and taken care of individually, with passion, dedication, lots of sweat and a pinch of fun and laughter.

💪🏻You start your mornings at 07:30am with a 3- 5km run or rope skipping prior to training for 1,5 hours individually (shadow boxing, bag work), with trainers (patch work, technique) and of course with sparring partners (sparring, clinching, boxing, conditioning). Each training is ended with 100 sit-ups & 100 push-ups. The afternoon session starts at 03:30pm and follows a similar pattern.

🏋️‍♀️ Sounds tough? It was. But more importantly it was fun, enriching and one of the best times of my life! Not only was I able to meet plenty of heart-warming people in the camp, also the team of trainers embraced my beginner level from day 1 onwards, showing empathy, patience and taking their time for me to being pushed out of my way to perform better day by day.

I was able to learn and set the basic techniques, such as foot work, punches, elbows and kicks. Even if there’s still a long way to go to enter the ring at some point, I am super proud of my progress and will continue this exciting journey in the months to follow.

If you ever think about trying Muay Thai yourself, I highly recommend the “Honour Muay Thai” training camp as a place to go! I promise you, you will not want to leave again, directly feeling home and being connected to the great people and community you will find on-site.

Shanghai as a futuristic, annually growing metropolis has more to offer than one might think! Here are some must- do’s and sees I highly recommend when visiting:

📍Wander along the beautiful scenery of “the Bund”, enjoying breathtaking skyline views of Pudong. Jump into one of the nightly “Huangpu River Cruises” for an additional water sight of the illuminated buildings at night.

📍Go on top of the landmark of Shanghai, the “Oriental Pearl Tower” to visit the observatory desk from which you have a birdseye view on Shanghai’s skyline. Enjoy a cocktail at the bar and take “the Bund Sightseeing Tunnel” as a return ticket to Pungxi.

📍Plan some time for visiting some of the well-preserved temple complexes, such as “Longhua Temple”, “Jadebuddha Temple” and “Jing a Temple”. Discover some of the multiple-existing gods and their guardians, observe praying rituals and enjoy local temple foods if you have time.

📍Plan a day trip to one of the four water villages being situated in rural, peaceful areas, giving a different perspective to the crowded and accelerated city life, such as “Zhujiajiao” and “Suzhou”. Due to over 70 historically well-preserved gardens and great art of garden architecture, some gardens have been announced UNESCO heritage sites. Recommended visits are, amongst others, the “Humble Administrator’s Garden” & “Lion Grove Garden”.

Don’t miss out on joining a water canal tour by 🛶 , enjoying the beautiful scenery of your surroundings whilst being accompanied by local songs from your boat driver. Enjoy local cuisine, such as the “squirrel-mandarin-fish” 🎣 and wander through the countless tourist shops amongst the river. Ensure to pre-book entrance tickets during peak season to avoid long queuing in front of entrance gates 🎟️

From Shanghai you can simply book a high speed train from either Shanghai station or Shanghai Hongqiao. Trains run every 5-10 min and will bring you to your destination in 30- 40mins only🚆

Taiwan: the heart of Asia 🇹🇼

A country lined with splendor of color, cultural diversity, warm- hearted people, scenic beauty and unique delicacies. Deep green forests, frequent rain falls followed by waves of heat and humidity, fishing villages, beaches and developing bigger cities, Taiwan combines the best of everything. Yet not too well-known amongst travelers, I can only express my dearest recommendation to consider this wonderful place as a next-to-explore bucket list country!

Taiwan: the heart of Asia 🇹🇼

A country lined with splendor of color, cultural diversity, warm- hearted people, scenic beauty and unique delicacies. Deep green forests, frequent rain falls followed by waves of heat and humidity, fishing villages, beaches and developing bigger cities, Taiwan combines the best of everything. Yet not too well-known amongst travelers, I can only express my dearest recommendation to consider this wonderful place as a next-to-explore bucket list country!

The Muslim Quarter, also known as Huimin Jie, is the most famous snack- and souvenir street you will find in Xi’an, shaanxi province.

Important to mention is that we are not talking about one or two streets, rather several blocks of interconnected roads offering a variety of street foods to share, or even better, eat your way solo through. You will also find several mosques to discover and explore along the way.

When choosing food, you will most likely be overwhelmed by the choices to pick from but that’s okay- choose whatever looks most appealing to you! The amount of available delicacies to try would probably take you over one month. Usually, the longest lines are the best- or most local foods you would want to go for. There are also several smaller restaurants to sit in if you do not want to eat while walking. And in case you are not sure what to get in the end, just ask a local in one the restaurants to help you out; people are super welcoming and helpful. I’m sure you’ll find amazing new and differing tasty dishes to fall in love with.

Go best at night to enjoy the illuminated sign boards and smell in the variety of freshly prepared dishes.

🔸Firstly detected back in 1974 by farmers, the Terracotta Army has been identified as the guardian shield in death for China‘s very first emperor, Qin Shi Huang.

🔸It is estimated that the entire tomb covers 7000 - 8000 warriors, all unique in size, posture, facial expression and clothing.

🔸When found, the army had been fully destroyed and earthly covered. It is estimated that a big fire burnt down the entire tomb- who and why the fire was set remains unclear.

🔸It takes up to three years to fully reconstruct one soldier only.

🔸The actual tomb of the emperor is yet unopened, protected through a grass-covered hill.

🔸Soldiers are made out of of yellow tone. Next to the soldiers, horses, treasures and relics out of the Qin dynasty can be found and seen in the 90 square kilometer big complex.
